PenLib is built on a SQL Server platform. SQL Server is a robust enterprise level database engine and is now a market leader in data storage and retrieval. SQL Server can be operated by most IT staff and is an open platform on which to store your data.

Administrator workstation requirements
- Windows 2000 or higher
- PC specification high enough to run Microsoft Office 2000 or higher
- Best viewed with a minimum display setting of 1024 x 768 pixels
- Browser e.g. Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
Database server requirements
- Windows Server 2000 or higher
- SQL Server 2000 or higher (works on Express versions!)
- Approximately 40-200MB space for the SQL Server database
IIS server requirements
These specifications are only required if you want to add a networked web front end (Web OPAC)
- A dedicated server is not required
- Windows Server 2000 or higher
- Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.00 or higher
Web OPAC users requirement
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or any industry standard browser such as Firefox and Chrome
